Nyhetsmorgon (20110108)

Since Sissel is going to perform on "Bingolotto" tomorrow, I suspected she would show up for an interview in the daily morning news show on TV4, either today or tomorrow. TV4 has a very good track record here in Sweden to feature Sissel now and then but I almost forgot to program my receiver. Luckily katbert reminded me and that was really good because Sissel is one of the main guests on today's news show. We are treated with a 20 minutes long main interview as well as a couple of shorter ones and she also performs three songs with her band. As this is a live show with no subtitles, I can't provide translation for the interview parts but I urge you to watch the main interview anyway since it features and old clip from 1992 when Sissel visited "Nyhetsmorgon" the first time.

My deepest and sincerest thanks to Sissel for this wonderful appearance and to TV4 for making it possible for us all to be part of it.

BTW, Morgan, would you please tell us what is the main interview about? A very brief translation will be enough. Thanks.

The interview starts with bringing up Sissel's 25 years as an artist and she's asked to comment on the MGP video. This was a fantastic experience to her and she tells us that this song is considered the national anthem of the city of Bergen, so all people from Bergen rose from their chairs during the performance. The foreign people in the audience, who didn't know this, looked confused but eventually got up from their chairs too.
Sissel is asked if she's had to pay a high price for her success but she says it's difficult to answer since she doesn't know what the alternative would've been. Her life has been a constant adventure but naturally there has been times where the pressure on her as a person has been difficult. She has always loved to sing and her dream came through after MGP. When asked if her teenage daughters would be allowed to take the same path as herself, she answers that the times are very different today. But she would try to be as supportive as her own parents were. They never pushed Sissel but carefully monitored that she made good choices and could handle the consequences.
Next, the media image of her as an innocent angel is brought up and Sissel tells us that neither she nor her friends has ever recognized that image of her and that it was annoying to her when she was younger. She never had any need to revolt though, it happened naturally when she one day decided to cut off her long hair. She had no idea it would stir up so many emotions in people. The same thing happened when she married Eddie Skoller and moved to Denmark. A lot of people had opinions on that but Sissel says that other people can't decide who she should love. She would also support her daughters if they ever got into that situation. "-The important thing is to follow your heart." Sissel thinks the Norwegians now has accepted her move to Denmark but she remembers a funny incident where the famous Norwegian actress Wenche Foss once was confronted by some old lady on the streets of Bergen, demanding that she would make sure Sissel returned home again! Sissel's professional life is still based in Norway though and she has always dreamed of moving back home so she's sure that will happen some day.
Sissel is then shown the "Amazing Grace" clip and correctly guesses that it's from 1992 based on her hair and the looks of her musicians (big laugh here)
Asked if there are new things to do in the future, after 25 years as an artist, Sissel answers that there are always ideas growing in her mind. Bits and pieces that slowly mature to become something new.
The choice of singing many songs in Swedish on the new album is explained partly because some of those songs are Swedish but mainly because of the influence of some of the Swedish people Sissel has worked with, especially Py Bäckman, who composed several songs on Sissel's previous album, and Mikael Wiehe, who Sissel listened a lot to growing up.
Then the interview turns to Sissel's Christian faith and she explains that she's not a Christian artist but rather an artist who is Christian. Her faith is something very personal to her and she's found her foundation in life within it. Her upbringing was not religious though and she found her faith naturally through her singing in choirs as a child. She admits that the media image of her probably largely depends on this part of her life and her appearance at the time. She doesn't visit the church as often as she would like to but she loves the environment and frequently gives her concerts in churches.
Back to her daughters and the possibility that they may move away from home in just a few years, Sissel says she thinks a lot of it and this also shows up in the theme in the first and last the songs of her latest album. Although Sissel moved away from home herself before she turned 18, she doesn't think she had to grew up to quickly - the process felt natural to her. Life progress in phases but she admits it will be difficult the day her daughters move away from home, but it's also a natural and beautiful part of life.
The interview simply ends with the acknowledgement of Sissel's Swedish tour which is due to begin in a couple of months.
